What are pasture-raised turkeys?White Broad Breasted turkey poults arrive at the farm when they are only one day old. They are kept in a heated brooding facility four to six weeks until they are ready to be moved outside onto pasture. The turkeys have lots of room to run while still having a shelter to give them shade from the sun and protection from inclement weather. The range area and the shelter are surrounded with electrified netting to protect the birds from predators. By moving the range, the birds have access to fresh vegetative grass at all times. They are also feed our own high quality feed to provide a balanced diet. All grains for our poultry feed are raised here on the farm and blended with an organic mineral supplement. This feed contains NO hormones, antibiotics, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), or meat and bone meal. Raising turkeys in this manner gives the flock a clean, healthy environment to thrive in. Why pasture-raised turkeys?Pasture raised turkeys have meat that is dense, tender, juicy, and has a wonderful flavor (please do not overcook it, though!). They are also fresh, never more than 12 hours old, when they are picked up here at the farm. Turkeys are processed here on the farm in the morning the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving. They are then ready to be picked up in the afternoon and you get a fresh turkey for your holiday meal. Be sure to order extras for Christmas or just to freeze and enjoy at another time. As pasture poultry producers, we are proud to provide you with the safest, healthiest and most delicious meat possible.
